Areas without through motor traffic
Ask
Close the Chapter Road & St Paul’s Avenue corridor to through motor traffic
Explanation
This is required as part of the Jubilee Line cycle route from central London to Wembley. Chapter Road and St Paul’s Avenue form a convenient direct cycle route but are blighted by rat running in a very narrow space. Through-traffic needs to be removed and a cycle crossing of Walm Lane from St Paul’s Avenue to Chatsworth Road needs to be created.
Chapter Road, a straight, direct road and theoretically a London Cycle Network (LCN) route, is actually a hostile environment where few would let their children cycle, because of the density of parking, narrowness of the space, and volume of through-traffic. Notwithstanding the traffic-calming cushions (that merely add another obstacle for cycling), the only solution for streets like this is to introduce a closure so all properties can still be accessed by car, but the road cannot be used as a rat-run.
