Cycling to work over the A5 flyover a cyclist fully laden came up the slip road and we converged at the lights on West Hendon Broadway.
An excuse me in an american voice "am i going the right way for the airport?"
When i told him he was not and it was a fair distance away at 12+ miles he was a bit deflated as he had been riding around for a while completely lost, his printed Google map did not have enough detail for our crammed road system.
We pulled over and discussed the ways in which he could make his 10am flight,it already being nearly 8am, trains not possible till after rush hour but by then it would be to late.
Having no detailed map i suggested the A406 could be the quickest way and simplest way, "you don't cycle down there do you?" , was his reply which i told him you can but it's not the nicest ride in the world.
Plan B i explained was to take the minor roads but i said you could again get lost very easily so i insisted he took my old No4 cycle map which would at least get him towards Harrow where i explained which way he needed to head afterwards to get to Heathrow.
I rode with him to Kingsbury Rd where i gave him the Q to turn left and wished him all the best on his journey.
Did he make the flight? we will never know!
