Carlton Vale | Brent Cycling Campaign

It’s almost time for our Annual General Meeting again!

The date is set! It will be on Tuesday 7th September at 7pm. It is highly likely that it will be an online meeting again this year. We will confirm either way closer to the date.

This meeting will be a chance to look back at what has been achieved in terms of campaigning for better cycling provision and active travel in Brent, in a year we are not likely to forget anytime soon. You can watch last year’s AGM here.

The AGM is also a time to elect members for our Management Committee. The Committee consists of London Cycling Campaign members and collectively we help each other, using different sets of skills and backgrounds to inform our decisions and steer our campaign to support better cycling provision in the borough.

Our asks are simple:

We want an inclusive and equitable environment where everyone can choose cycling.

We want to be an open and diverse group with a good mix of people. We are all volunteers and we understand time limitations, so the more people get involved, the lighter the load is for each of us! We all have skills that are useful to campaign for better, safer and cleaner streets. You don’t need to know every technical infrastructure detail to be a valuable asset to the committee. There are however three roles that are necessary for the Management Committee to function and these roles are for a minimum of 12 months:

The Group Co-ordinator: The main point of contact for the group from councillors, members of the public and act as liaison with LCC HQ. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to LCC policy and meets the legal requirements, represents the group to external meetings and build strong connections with local people cycling, community groups and businesses.

The Treasurer: To manage all financial matters, including the group’s bank account and general finances. They will need to file an annual financial return to the central LCC office.

The Secretary: To help with the administration of the group. This can mean organising meetings, take minutes, look after membership lists and keep the website up to date.

We also need people to fulfil other roles which can include the following, or any skillset you can offer as long as you share our passion for campaigning for better, safer and more inclusive cycling provision in Brent. Not all members of the Committee need to perform a specific role or for a specific length of time:

Group Chair: helps facilitate meetings and the administration side of the group.

Infrastructure Representative: is the first point of contact within the group for infrastructure-related queries and questions.

Consultation Coordinator: someone who can keep an eye on the consultations, disseminate and coordinate the response.

A Climate Safe Street Officer: someone who can join the dots between the climate emergency and the need for more active travel.

If you are interested in any of these roles or if you want to be more involved in any way – not necessarily in a specific role – do not hesitate to come forward. We welcome anyone with any campaigning and administrative skills. You will need to let us know if you want to stand for a committee position before the vote.
